The Fallen Tree

“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

I miss the days when social media was fun.

I miss having my  blogs be the first place I went to when I wanted to talk about what was going on in my world or where I went to share my ideas.

Now I  of mindlessly trudge to Facebook and post things because that’s where people go to talk and socialize. I guess that’s ok if you’re a shut in, or you work from home or if you’re living in a place where you haven’t exactly found a way to fit into the community around you.

None of those things apply to me.

But I guess my fear is, if you don’t belong to Facebook do you exist?

Darwin Was Not Amused and Other Random News From LCJ

The buzz at the end of the week concerning Facebook was it’s falling stocks and people aren’t  creating accounts the way they used to and a segment of the community  don’t trust it.

That’s why I liked my blog, I just toddle on over and create stories, or post links to things I like or I post pictures that I take for fun.

I understand that people get down when their friends don’t acknowledge what they put on their Facebook page. Putting yourself out there and expressing yourself  takes a  bit of nerve. But I don’t feel that what I do at Facebook is social interaction, so I don’t care about that platform nearly as much as I care about my blogs.

If I post my writing  or photographs it’s safe to say what I’m putting in these places is the real ”me” as opposed to the ” Profile” me at Facebook.

With that being said, here’s some pictures I took yesterday- memorable because it was hot and I was not in the greatest of moods but when I went back to see what I captured I decide it was actually an ok day.

Here is the proof:

I really liked the flowers we chose, especially the lavender.  But I paid more attention  the containers- each has a different texture and color. I think it adds a little side note to the plants that makes an interesting read.

I’m going to start a little herb garden- Herbs are great. They have different personalities and come in a variety of colors and sizes. Just like fish.

As I mentioned earlier it was really hot outside.

This is how my boys dealt with it:

Hamish taking using the fan I bought especially for him and his brothers, Micey and Darwin.

I almost activated Micey’s murder button-  I was blocking the cool air…bad Mommy!

Darwin was not amused by the heat, the fan or me.

Darwin is never amused.

This is a real toy from a time when smoking was cool.

With that, I’ll say goodbye for now.

Remembering Blitzer

This is my cat Blitzer.

He used to hunt birds when they were up in the trees.

One day I was standing under one of my fruit trees and it started to rain small animal parts.

There was a bird wing, hind quarters from a rat, part of a little skull that with the eye still in it.

In all, there were the remains of at least three freshly killed animals at my feet- and in my hair but I choose to not dwell on that part of the story.

So we l will fast forward to this part:

Do you know how conventional wisdoms says  when cats bring you their kill they’re giving you a gift?

I’m pretty sure that was not Blitzer’s intention.

Blitzer was the kind of cat that writers see in cemeteries and haunted houses and riding on broomsticks and sucking the breath from babies.

I was lucky enough to have that fantastic cat in my life for almost 10 years.

I miss you Mr. Blitzer and I hope that wherever you are there are lots of trees and that the Moon is always full

Before I jumped into the social media pool, I used to blog a lot more about ‘stuff that happens’.

That means that I had to explain and clarify my points and tell a little story because nobody wants to read a book report about your sucky commute to work or that restaurant you went to and really liked until you found out that their food was prepackaged and they just warmed it up and if they didn’t order enough from their vendor  you were out of luck.

Now if I want to tell a story on social media I have to have a picture and be able to write in fluent emoji.

I really miss those days because I like to write and like to read.

I worked hard and putting my posts together and thinking of a topic and going out to find the perfect picture to run with my stories.

” I don’t have time to read “

” I wish I had a minute to myself.”

” I haven’t read a book in ages.”

I remember when people used to make fun of home movies and the vicious things they used to say about people busting out their photo albums and ‘making’ their friends and family look at vacation pictures and holiday pictures and those pictures somebody took because their was some film in the camera.

Now we have Facebook and Instagram and all of that has changed.

I wonder why?

It’s A Green Thing

I recycle.

I take a train to work instead of driving.

I stopped calling the bike riders who leave their rent a bikes in the handicapped parking spot in a private lot ‘douche nozzles’ ( I just call them self righteous bastards now  because it sounds classier )

But none of my small efforts added to the greater good.

My dog thinks I’m pretty great and all I do is act like a decent human being around him.

Lesson here- puppies for everyone.

Curiosity Is Live

Tomorrow ( June 7th, 2018 ) NASA is going to host a live discussion on their website HERE to discuss the newest science results from the Curiosity.

I am still holding out hope that one day the Curiosity or one of her brothers and sisters will find a fossils or something like the effigy from the Blair Witch project with that Gold Record we sent up in the Voyager tied in the middle of it and hanging from a rock – but until then I’m holding out hope for – oh Hell, for fossils or the effigy.

I can’t give up the dream, what can I say?

Until then, I’m going to get my geek on and tune in and see what’s up- I might not get my wish but I will probably get some education and that is NEVER a bad thing.

Yes. I am Serious. Deadly Serious.

I’d want to go into the after life with the Grim Reaper just for a chance to hear the stories he must have.

Also, I’d ask how to land a gig like his.

From what I understand, boats, horses, flying and secret doors and gateways are put of the tools that are part of the job. How cool is that? With those wickedly cool travel options you just show up and say, ” Come with me ” and off you go.

Keep in mind, I got a job in a Funeral Home as an apprentice and I had to compete with people who were in Mortuary college at the time there wasn’t one in my home state and I wasn’t in the position to go to a state that did.

I just convinced the people who were interviewing me that I really belonged there and they were sold.

So. You know.

Don’t put it beyond my skill set.

I’m talented in the weirdest ways.

June 4, 2018

I started this blog so I could post my random stuff somewhere other then on Facebook.

Yeah. That didn’t work out so well

I guess I just wanted to be part of the tribe. So I kept right on Facebooking

I did try to put the same stuff on my blog- pictures of the family, stories about vacations etc- and tell people that’s where I’m posting and not on Facebook I get this:

” I don’t have time to read ”

Well guess what- I read a lot. I write a lot and I have the same amount of time in a day that everyone else has. I check up on my friend’s blogs- though that suffered because instead of reading I was goofing off on Facebook looking at the same stuff over and over again.

My friends who write put a lot of time and effort into their art, I think I’d like to spend more time on that.

Most of all I hate this forced march thing- I hate posting things on Facebook so that I can feel like I’m staying in touch with people. I guess what I’ve decided is, you want to see what I’m up to you’re going to have to read about it.

However, I’m really into posting pictures and cartoons. The only difference is that here you just can’t hit it with a blue thumb.

It’s tough I know, but life is supposed to be full of challenges.

I guess that learning to exist off the Island is mine.

It’s Going To Get You

I took this picture at the end of what would be the last great Spring I’d ever have again.

I’m not sure what’s worse- knowing something like that for a fact- or wondering when

I’ll feel that good about the world around me again.
